MCRU support some of the world’s most prestigious audiophile accessory brands, we are proud to be associated with companies like IsoTek, Furutech, Clearaudio, Oyaide and many others. From our humble beginnings 3 years ago we have now grown from a small company making mains leads and extension blocks (our very first product was a 6 way mains block) to a fully fledged hi-fi dealer with demonstration rooms and a full range of quality hi-fi equipment and accessories. We still run our business from home and believe that a demonstration of any hi-fi equipment sounds better in a house than in a retail shop.
We have in our dem rooms the Clearaudio Innovation turntable as well as the Performance DC and Concept MM all running into valve amplification from Canor or solid state from Tellurium Q with their excellent new “Claymore” amplifier which we also stock.
The subject of this article however is the final piece in the hi-fi system jigsaw and possibly the most important, the “loudspeaker”, often so hard to get right, with so many different brands all competing for the right to enter your home, where does one begin? MCRU took a different route, rather than just sign up to sell some of the many household brands many of which MCRU’s owner has heard and was moderately impressed with, we took an entirely different approach and commissioned speaker designers to create ones specially for us. The results need to be heard but we strongly advise any visitors who come to our dem rooms to hear them to bring a suitable form of payment, the author of this article has 35 years experience listening to hi-fi under his belt and has heard very few “affordable” speakers which sound as good as the MCRU offerings.
There are only 5 speakers in the range, the top end Alexander Acoustics Concrete Loudspeakers (which no one should dismiss without hearing them first), electricbeach frugel 3 horn loudspeakers and the new MCRU trio of a matching family named after the size of each speakers main drivers, MCRU No.101, MCRU No.127 and MCRU No.165. Overall there is a speaker to suit every budget and system without going stratospheric. All are unique in design and will enhance modern or contemporary homes with a choice of wood finishes, even the concrete speakers can be made using a colour scheme to match your homes decor. Full details of each design to follow…
