Tellurium Q Cables at Mains Cables R Us

Phase distortion is often un-heard of in hi-fi, it has been ignored for many years. According to wikipedia In signal processing, phase distortion or phase-frequency distortion is distortion that occurs when (a) a filter’s phase response is not linear over the frequency range of interest, that is, the phase shift introduced by a circuit or device is not directly proportional to frequency, or (b) the zero-frequency intercept of the phase-frequency characteristic is not 0 or an integral multiple of 2π radians.

What this means for a hi-fi system is signals (electric current) in wire (copper, silver, whatever) , tend to flow more freely at different depths in the wire depending on frequency etc. This is a very simplified way of looking at a much more complicated scientific fact, nothing more. Because of this phenomenon some signals are slightly delayed and become squashed together. This is especially true for low end bass. Unfortunately almost every speaker cable that is made suffers from this. Because nearly all cables suffer from this problem we have become accustomed to hearing smeared bass from our hifi systems.

The problem has thankfully been addressed by Tellurium Q, a company who make all their cables in the UK, they make their own wire, they make their own sleeving, all accurately controlled to avoid the pitfalls that have seen many cable company’s in the past offer glossy brochures and marketing hyperbole and the end result is decidedly mediocre cables.

Mains Cables R Us became seriously aware of Tellurium Q through a forum, prior to this the owner, David Brook had used the TQ cables in passing with no serious listening or thought as to their performance characteristics. After seeing many reviews and the Hi-Fi press reaction of astonishment and amazement at the increases in sound quality when using the cables, led to Mains Cables R Us applying to become a dealer for the cables.

After listening to some of the cables in the MCRU reference system of Canor TP106VR+ Tube Amplifier, Canor CD2 VR+ Tube CD Player, Garrard 401 with SME309 and Ortofon Kontrapunkt B Cartridge using Toppsounds Speakers, we had to agree with the market, these cables are rather special. Even the entry level blue speaker cables easily outperform designs costing 3 or 4 times as much. The music comes alive, performers appear to be further out in the room, the bass is tighter and further extended, the entire performance feels right.

The entire range of cables as a definable hierarchy, every cable can be up-graded to the next rice level and stepping upo gives clear improvements over the lower garde cable. The top of the range is currently The Graphite Cables. Whichever cable you choose from the Tellurium Q range rest assured your hi-fi will sound better than ever before.

Mains Cables R Us stock the full range of Tellurium Q cables, we offer demonstrations both at home and in our purpose built listening room, we can loan cables out so you can listen to them in the comfort if your own home to see if they are right for you, if they are, simply order a new set from us and when they arrive return the dem cables, simple as that.

The current range consists of speaker cables, interconnects, power cables, tone arm cables and electronics.
