A common question that we hear is “Why do I need to buy an AC powerplant for my HiFi system when I get AC power from plugging directly into the wall socket?”
The simple answer is that in an ideal world, you could plug in directly to your mains supply and get a precise standard voltage and frequency (230V ±10% at 50Hz as standard in the UK) that never varies, regardless of the time of day, or the number of people using mains power. This AC power would be free of distortion of the 50Hz wave form, providing a clear sound, free of electrical noise.
This perfect AC supply would mean that all audio equipment could be designed to suit this specific level of voltage and frequency and an appliance such as a power amp could provide a perfect signal. Unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world, so this isn’t the case. AC power can vary with the time of the day, depending on how many appliances are using the power supply at any particular time. As a result, audio output is subject to AC electrical noise and distortion. Luckily there is a solution that provides a scenario much more similar to the previously mentioned ideal world.
The PS Audio Approach
Specialising in engineering the highest quality of audio equipment from the ground up, Boulder, Colorado’s PS Audio have designed a series of power generators to remove the problem of distorted power lines. PS Audio’s Directstream power plant series a continuous “clean” AC output, taking in mains power, regenerating and purifying it to work magic on the performance of your audio system.
PS Audio Directstream Power Plant 15
Re-designed from the ground up to improve on the Power Plant 12, PS Audio’s Directstream Power Plant 15 provides the perfect power platform for any audio system. Featuring 5 separate regenerated zones, buss bar delivery system and 1500VA of pure regenerated power, the P15 features 9 UK plug sockets to provide the power source that your HiFi needs to work at its very best.
PS Audio Directstream Power Plant 20
The Power Plant 20 is the biggest of the Directstream series of AC regenerators, putting out a continuous power of 2000VA and a peak of 3600VA, pushing the limit of what a 20amp circuit can achieve. The 13-plug socket P20 allows audio systems to operate at their full potential, no longer affected by fluctuating AC.
To get the most out of your music and prevent the risk of damaging your audio equipment, PS Audio’s Directstream power plant series are an essential investment. When you have spent time and money on building up the perfect audio system to enjoy your music, it’s disheartening to be let down by an unreliable power signal – PS Audio provide the answer.
