Following on from our hugely successful No.75 mains lead which was awarded Hi-Fi Choice magazines top accolade of 5 stars and a recommended badge, we introduce the No.78.
The “7 series” of cables was introduced to bring affordable and esoteric designs all with one aim, to punch well above their weight and offer the end user a cable that performs beyond all expectations commensurate with the price paid.
The No. 78 is another star performer based on our tried and trusted formulation when designing a power lead.
At MCRU we listen to every item we sell, if its a set of isolation feet or a set of headphones, everything is auditioned and if it cuts the mustard is added to our product portfolio, if not it is scrapped or returned to the supplier. In the case of a new mains lead we try various combinations of cable, connectors, filtering and fuses until we come up with the right sounding combination.
The aim with the No. 78 was to design a cable that is one step above the No. 75 and is capable of powering more robust equipment such as power amplifiers and mains conditioners/power strips. At the same time the cable needs to slot into the 7 series hierarchy price wise and finally it has to sound better than it’s price would suggest, a tough act but one we have again succeed at.
The full specification for the new No. 78 is 4mm sq double screened copper cabling ( a new design of cable we have not seen anywhere else with foil shielding and tinned copper outer braid) and our standard acoustic braiding on the outside of the cable to dampen resonances.
MCRU bespoke internal non intrusive filtering inside the mains plug and IEC connector and an audiophile plug fuse as standard (we often shudder when we see competitors cables costing many hundred of pounds fitted with cheap fuses). Furutech gold plated and cryo treated copper plug and IEC connector as standard.
The No. 78 is supplied as 0.7 metres and available in 0.5 metre increments thereafter. The power lead can be supplied with UK, EU, AUS, USA mains plugs on request and either standard kettle lead IEC connector (C15) or a high current 16 amp IEC (C19) for power amps and mains blocks/conditioners.
