Recommended by Hi Fi World and Hi-Fi Choice , a unique solution to resonance control as well as the protection of surfaces.

Out of stock

The Blue Horizon Spike Shoe is a unique solution not only for the protection of surfaces, for example loudspeaker spikes and wooden floors, but also in controlling resonance. Just about all spike protection devices simply protect surfaces, they are normally cheaply pressed steel with cheap high density rubber. No consideration is given to the sonic effect of their inclusion in an audio system. The BH Spike shoe actually improves speaker performance through better coupling and resonance control. Sold as a set of 4 shoes for £24.95.

Blue Horizon’s Ultimate Spike Shoes are designed to sit beneath the spikes that support floorstanding speakers and speaker stands. They serve a dual purpose: firstly, they protect flooring and secondly, they enhance sound quality by suppressing resonance that leads to sonically damaging microphony in audio components.

It is the second of these functions that sets them apart form other spike shoes on the market. Uniquely, the aluminium outer casing of each spike shoe is filled by a combination specially chosen materials. The first of these is an extremely dense material placed directly beneath the indentation in which the spike sits, allowing spike loading of up to 100kg.

This is surrounded by a proprietary mixture of materials at opposite ends of the elasticity spectrum. The differing resonant frequencies of these materials ensure that resonance is damped equally across the audio band, rather than simply delivering a tonal shift. The combination of improved coupling and effective resonance control delivers clearly audible benefits, opening up the sound and improving definition from bass through to treble. Feedback from Mr D.Owen from Truro.

“I got these this morning (24.06.11) and put them straight on. The result is a revelation: I’ve been so used to the floor singing along with lower bass notes, I’d forgotten what true bass was. Before there was a big difference between say the higher and lower notes of a bass guitar but now it sounds like one instrument and you can hear the texture of the low notes rather than a rumble which it was before.”

    New Horizons

It is always difficult to describe sounds and convey what you hear, I had read reviews of what the spikes do. The best way I can think to describe is instead of the sound being stood at ease on a parade ground it brings the sound to attention and smartens it up. Told you it wasn’t easy!

    Tuneful with control

At David’s suggestion, I tried these under my Spendor S9 speakers. When you think of placing what appear to be relatively flimsy spike shoes under a 35kg speaker to interrupt its contact via heavy-duty spikes, through carpet onto concrete, you wonder if rigidity and stability will be compromised and the sound actually improved. Well, stability is not compromised and the sound is certainly better. Amazingly, the bass is tightened and more tuneful, allowing a much more balanced overall presentation. A wonderful, cost-effective ‘tweak’.

    bargain tweek

I bought these after reading a good review in hifi choice. I have to say they don’t look like much when you take them out of the box. I tried them under my hifi speaker stands and was amazed at the improvement across the whole audio range. Bass in particular seemed much more precise. A quick and easy upgrade at a good price. Already ordered some more to use in my home cinema set up.

    “Great Product!”

“Great product! My forth set actually, 2 earlier for my ProAc & 1 for my CDP, this time for my Amp.”

    Worthwile tweak

These little feet are very effective at decoupling my large and heavy floorstanding speakers from the floor and result in much less room colouration. Bass is noticeably less boomy. Recommended.

    “Great effect!”

“Unassuming products but they have reaped instant rewards in my system. They have substantially reduced the bloom in the upper bass on my Monitor Audio GX300s which I was getting via CD and vinyl. Considering they were also on sale, what a bargain.”

“A definite change and improvement in the sound and trying to assess exactly what is going on. Most noticable in the bass which is more rounded and decays without and buzz or leakage. A very good product.”

    “Blue Horizon spike shoes”

“I placed them under my speaker spikes which sit on natural limestone slabs . I did not notice any difference in the sound but the shoes gave grip to the spikes and look good. I then placed three of the shoes under the supports of my Project turntable which sits on plate glass and noticed an improvement in the bass response. The shoes gave grip to the supports and made the turntable more stable. I am pleased with my purchase of the shoes. “

    “Blue horizon spike shoes”

“Good product and value for money.

My system sounded with overblown bass and now the bass is tight.

The music became more live and relaxing.

    Thank you.
