Computer Audio Done Right!

If like us you have used a CD player for decades and still do, the thought of listening to your music using computer files might seem strange, in fact to many hardened audiophiles its just plain wrong. The CD has been around since 1982 and is certainly far from “dead”, there are still a few high end audio manufacturing companies building CD players. There is however a far simpler method of listening to music once set up correctly and it’s not vinyl.

The term “computer audio” can mean many things, to MCRU it simply means NOT using CD’s. Instead you rip your music from the CD to a computer and play it back without needing a CD player, this alone is troublesome to many people, it seems daunting and potentially difficult to do, the choice of kit is bewildering and getting the choice correct puts many people off the very idea of playing files from a computer through the hi-fi system.

At MCRU we like to keep things simple, as audiophiles for over 3 decades embracing computer audio has been difficult, after all we prefer vinyl and always will do. There are times however when sitting in your listening chair you simply want the convenience of not having to get up every 20-30 minutes to change the record. Today’s modern music servers and files storage systems can be operated from a mobile phone or a tablet PC. Sit down, scan your entire music library using your phone, press play and relax!

Enter the Melco N1A music storage system. It looks like a thin amplifier or tuner, it is slim, and it does slot into your equipment rack quite easily. It is however a very cleverly designed 21st century solution to any audiophiles dreams. Able to store many 1000’s of your favorite music files all easily accessible using your phone or tablet and with sound quality un-matched at this level, the burning question is what does it do and how do I get it to work?

The Melco N1A is in simple terms a storage system to keep your CD’s contents all in one place, think of it as a digital jukebox, able to store 1000’s of CD’s all in one place and playable with the tap of a screen. The functions on offer are plentiful, for instance you can choose your 100 favorite songs of all time even if they are spread across 50 CD’s and group them all together. You can catalog your entire collection of albums and access individual tracks or the entire CD’s contents, play one track and then move on to a different CD without leaving your chair.

If you have a hi-fi system with an amplifier and speakers you simply need the Melco N1A, a DAC (digital to analog converter which start at around £100) and something to rip your CD’s (the home computer or a laptop with CD drive are 2 examples of what is needed).

If you don’t have a computer or laptop help is at hand as MCRU will rip your CD’s for you when buying a Melco N1A from us.
